Champs-Élysées
Think cinematic R&B with lo-fi grooves and neo-soul garnishes and blended in a jazz mixer. Add to this a 21 piece string orchestra, and Marks further illustrates his unique vision for creating genre defying, feel-good soundtracks. The name of the track can be traced to Marks’ time living in Paris when he was 17. His strong affinity for French culture, language, music and art has had a profound influence on his artistry.
This track began in 2021 while Marks was scoring a film. In typical fashion, he was on a ‘treasure hunt’ for new sounds, and happened to stumble across a free synthesizer he had picked up via Spitfire Audio’s LABS series. He started with improvising a set of chords – the ones you now hear at the start of the tune. He then laid down a groove, improvised some jazz horns, and in keeping with his cinematic aesthetic and experimental approach, used pizzicato strings in this unusual setting. The result: a track that could fit in a concert hall just as easily at a 5-star resort in Ibiza. In keeping with his previous releases, Champs Èlysées is yet another example of Marks connecting disparate paradigms of his artistry: that of the concert music/film scoring world, and the underground scenes in which jazz, hip-hop, neo-soul and electronica blend together.
Marks composed all elements of the track, performed, recorded and produced all the keyboard and synthesizer elements.
